Hello and welcome to Lessons With Josephine! I have been a private music instructor throughout my educational and professional careers and am a firm believer in the well-rounded musician, working work with my students to establish technique while simultaneously focusing on what drives them, helping to explore and acknowledge hidden passions and new understanding of many different musical styles. My favorite part about teaching is seeing a student’s excitement over what they are working on. Joy is the greatest motivator, and as an educator, I strive to help students discover what it is in music that brings them joy.

My vocal background includes experience in jazz, classical, and musical theatre techniques. My piano skills are comprised of classical performance, accompaniment, and pop styles. I have knowledge of music history and theory curriculums, incorporating these into my lessons to encourage a comprehensive understanding of the music that is performed by my students.

As a performer, I am dedicated to exploring unusual vocal repertoire, sharing new and undiscovered songs with my audiences, and my passion for poetry and language has brought me on a path in discovering art song new and old. I am a graduate of North Park University and Roosevelt University. A favorite as a recitalist and chamber artist in northern Minnesota and Chicagoland, I am currently an active member of the Chicago group Canto Zenzero, performing various recitals both here and abroad.

As a music director, I regularly work around the city music directing musicals and other cabaret events. I run a contemporary worship choir at St. Vincent de Paul Parish and help with workshops and other events to help singers new and old in their musical endeavors.
